Farm Shop

Open daily from 7am - 11pm, 01539 711328

In 2003, we opened two Farm shops on our north and southbound service area. This was a new concept on a British Motorway and one we are very proud of as it came directly from the Dunning Families passion for local produce. Westmorland Farm Shops offer an extensive range of carefully selected local and artisan specialities as well as lamb and beef from our farm adjoining the southbound service area.

We strive to give our customers the widest choice of local produce. When we first opened we took delivery from 12 producers in Cumbria, but as we have grown so have the number of producers that are able to supply us and we now have regular deliveries from over 40 producers.

To make shopping easier for our customers, we offer an order and collect service, so that customers can ring their order through before leaving home and simply pick it up. We have cool bags for long journeys and produce delicious seasonal food hampers. For more information telephone 01539 711341.

We offer over 40 British farmhouse cheeses, not to mention individual speciality cheeses such as British Buffalo milk mozzarella. We buy many cheeses directly from the farms, including; Thornby Moor Dairy at Thursby, Slack House Farm at Brampton, Wardhall Dairy at Wigton, Organic Lancashire from the Forest of Bowland, and Doddington Farmhouse. Our most popular cheese is Cumberland Farmhouse cheese from Thornby Moor Dairy, but we also sold some 2,187 of their stumpie goat cheeses.

We sell delicious handmade pies and sausage rolls, made from Gloucester Old Spot pork, last year we sold 38,684 pork pies. John Lomas who makes them could be considered a bit of a bore on the subject after all, he did invent a pie that included everything for a truckers breakfast including; Cumberland sausage, mushrooms and black pudding topped with tomato.

We also sell a yummy selection of:

  • Sausages and bacon
  • Freshly baked bread
  • Delicious cakes
  • Jams, relishes and chutneys
  • Pickles and vinegar
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables.

The shops were officially opened by HRH Prince Charles, since which time famous customers have include HRH Princess Anne and famous chef and TV personality Clarissa Dickson Wright.

In 2008, we have opened a meat maturing room, cutting room and butchers counter at the southbound farm shop, selling Galloway beef and Herdwick lamb from our farm as well as locally reared pork and venison.
