Breakfast Champion of the North West 2006
Tebay Services were crowned Breakfast Champion of the North West, for its commitment to the promotion of delicious breakfasts using local produce. The Competition was held as part of the celebrations for Farmhouse Breakfast Week, organised by the HGCA (Home Grown Cereals Authority)
Best Motorway Service Area in the UK by Which? Magazine - 2006
Tebay Services were named the best motorway services in the UK by Which? Magazine Judges visited 57 of Britain's major service stations along major holiday routes and commented " This independently - run station was the best we saw. A decent restaurant, well stocked shop with quality kids' toys and free phone calls to a good local hotel all impressed, but it was the local produce shop that sealed the deal. With stuffed pheasant, a deli counter and a selection of chutneys and jams, this is the closest the motorway network comes to Harrods Food Hall."
Westmorland Farm Shops Wins Major National Award
The two Farm Shops were named 'Best Local Retailer 2003' in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards. They were selected from several hundred nominations by Radio 4 listeners of Farming Today and the Food Programme. The Awards were announced at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC in Birmingham, November 2003.
Mr Dunning Wins an 'Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award'
One of the founding members of Westmorland Limited, Mr John Dunning has been honoured with an 'Outstanding Contribution to Tourism in the Northwest' in the 'England's Northwest Tourism Awards, 2008.
Organised by the Northwest Development Agency, the awards were held at a star studded ceremony at Liverpool St George's Hall and were hosted by Laurence Llewelyn - Bowen. For the first time the awards included the 'outstanding contribution to Tourism Award' and was awarded to Mr Dunning for his ' exceptional contribution to the development and sustainability of Cumbria's visitor economy. Championing farm diversification and local produce long before "food miles" were fashionable.'
Rheged, one of Westmorland's businesses also scooped the prestigious award for 'Northwest Excellence business in Tourism'.
Sarah Dunning Wins Business Woman of the Year
Chief Executive of Westmorland Limited, Sarah Dunning was named 'Business Woman of the Year' at the CN Business awards on the 31st October.
Sarah was awarded businesswoman of the year for her outstanding contribution to Westmorland Limited and has demonstrated exceptional commitment, shown inspirational leadership and vision and has made a significant impact on improving the performance of the business.
Westmorland Win a Big Tick!
Westmorland Limited have been awarded a Big tick Award from Business in the Community . The Big Tick Awards now in there twelth year, are only awarded to businesses able to demonstrate significant impact and high quality management of their responsible business practices and who can show a positive impact on both society and on the business.
Westmorland have been awarded the big tick due to the positive impact the farm shops and butcher's counter has had on the surrounding community.
The decision to award the Big Tick was made by a panel of independent, experienced practitioners, and is such both hard won (only 39% of applicants in 2008 were successful).
Westmorland was selected as a finalist in Business in the Communities Awards for excellence and were named as the northwest regional winner.
Double Award goes to local business woman
Westmorland Limited's Chief Executive Sarah Dunning has been named both 'Cumbria Young Director of the Year' and 'North West Young Director of the Year 2009' at the annual Institute of Directors Award ceremony. Now in their sixth year, the Institute of Directors Awards held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester on Wednesday 7th October, highlight the successful leaders in the North West. Nearly 200 nominations were received for business directors and owners who have been shaping the economy, creating jobs and making a difference in their respective industries.
Westmorland wins the Grand Prix of Gastronomy Award
On the 1st November 2009 The British Academy of Gastronomes awarded it's annual Grand Prix of Gastronomy Award to Tebay Services. The Grand prix is awarded to anyone or anything that has done most in the preceding 12 months to improve the quality of food in the UK. Previous winners in the award's 9 year exisitence include the Prince of Wales for reviving the interest in British Mutton; Michel and Albert Roux for dramatically increasing British restaurant standards; Jane grigson for her publications' influence on cooking, "Sommerset Cheddar" for its world wide appeal.
Sarah Dunning, Chief Executive of Westmorland Ltd was handed the award by Egon Ronay, founder of the British Academy of Gastronomes.
Tebay Southbound has the Best Toilets in England
In the Annual Loo of the Year Awards 2009, Tebay Services southbound were announced as the National winners in the category for Motorway Service Areas. Having fought off competition from over 1500 entries over 60 categories, Tebay were only one of two service areas to receive 5 stars for their excellent toilet facilities. The loo of the year awards have been identifying the best in the UK since 1987 and are recognised as standard setters for all those who provide 'away from home' facilities. All entrants received an unannounced visit from an authorised inspector and were assesed against a wide range of judging criteria including signage, decor, fixtures and fittings and overall cleanliness and management.
